Witnessing Climate Change (1)

On Earth Day, April 22, 2024, the American Academy of Motion Pictures Museum in Los Angeles, California is hosting a program featuring filmmakers and films from the International Sámi Film Institute and UArctic Thematic Network on Arctic Indigenous Film and Arctic Indigenous Film Fund. The program is intended for families and curious film lovers and promises rich, nuanced depictions of the lands and people who live in the historic Sápmi territory of what today is known as northern Norway, Sweden, Finland, and parts of Russia.

For those UArctic news subscribers in the Los Angeles area, there is still an opportunity for you to attend tonight's program at the Academy Museum by contacting Morgan Dulian, Executive Director of Development for UArctic at morgan.dulian@uarctic.org.

The Arctic: Stories from Our Lands

Monday, April 22, 2024 at 7:30pm PT

In person: Select filmmakers in conversation with Bird Runningwater

An evening of documentary shorts by Arctic Indigenous filmmakers. The works explore the profound connection between climate, land, and resources, and will be followed by a conversation with select filmmakers moderated by Bird Runningwater. At times poetic and always immediate, these shortform accounts of life in the Arctic Circle and beyond explore the realities of displacement, the necessity of the land and the water, the essential bonds between animals and humanity, and the perseverance inherent in the reclamation of historical mythology.
