The meeting was hosted by Alaskan Senator Lisa Murkowski, and participants included representatives from the eight Arctic nations plus the European Parliament, the Sami Parliamentary Council, the Nordic Council, the West-Nordic Council, and the University of the Arctic.

Representing UArctic were Vice-President Administration, Outi Snellman and UArctic Board member, Brian Rogers, who gave a presentation on the status of UArctic and introduced the recently published External Review report on UArctic. The Parliamentarians expressed their continued support for UArctic, and conveyed the need to keep education at the top of the Arctic agenda.

Brian Rogers, who is Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks (a UArctic member) is pleased with the announcement of the Arctic marine shipping project, which will be conducted by UAF and funded by the US Department of Commerce (US$200,000). The study will be led by Lawson Brigham at UAF, who previously wrote an Arctic marine shipping assessment for the Arctic Council.
