University of the Highlands and Islands

Based in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, we are a distinctive partnership of 10 independent colleges and research institutions that span both Further and Higher Education.

Our reputation is built on our innovative approach to learning and our distinctive research and curriculum – all enriched by the people, natural environment, economy, culture and heritage of the Highlands and Islands and its communities.

Scotland's stunning landscapes are home to our 70 locations; set among mountains and forests, on islands and the mainland, in historic towns and cities, in hi-tech research parks, and in high-quality learning spaces.

Our 36,000 students regularly give us great feedback on our teaching, flexibility, support, and smaller class sizes.

The Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS) is based in Oban and a proud UHI partner. Founded in 1884 by Sir John Murray, the father of oceanography, SAMS is among the oldest marine science organisations in the world!

We are proud to be different - a university of today for the world of tomorrow.
